How to use this site

There is a variety of information on the website of the Information desk. Here you will find a short explanation that can help you find what you are looking for.

Every menu item contains different information. Under 'effective interventions' you can find information on psychosocial care and treatment methods for which positive results were found in scientific research. For each study conducted on individual care and treatment methods a factsheet is provided with detailed information and links to the original publication.

In the menu on the left you can choose between care and treatment methods for people with dementia who live at home and for care and treatment methods for people with dementia living in long-term care facilities.

Structure

The interventions are classified based on seven adaptation areas. You can find an explanation of the theoretical model on which these areas are based under 'theoretical background'. This structure will help you focus your search for suitable psychosocial treatments.
If you are looking for interventions in a specific adaptation area, you will see that the interventions included in this area are divided into different types or methods. If you choose a type of treatment in the menu at the top of the page, you will be shown a brief description of the type of treatment as well as a list with links to the individual studies in which positive outcomes for this treatment are found. By clicking on the link a downloadable pdf-file is opened.

A complete list of all studies included in this website can be found in the menu under the item 'references'.

Factsheets

The factsheets contain a brief description of the effective interventions. The factsheets can be downloaded and printed. The digital documents contain links to websites where you can find the articles in question.

At the top right hand side of the factsheets the area in which the study has found positive effects are indicated in colour. In addition, several symbols are used in the factsheets:

randomized controlled study (RCT)
controlled study
uncontrolled study
case study or qualitative study

Reviews and publications

The factsheets are based on studies described in 18 (inter)national reviews published between 2000 and 2010. The references are located under 'reviews'.
You can find the complete list of references of the studies described in the factsheets under 'publications'.

Implementation materials

Under 'implementation materials' you can find implementation material that is to be ordered at the Information Deks. And freely available implementation material that can provide support in the implementation of interventions, such as folders, films and guidelines is to be downloaded in this section.
