Cardiovascular MRI course

Program Overview

Thursday                           

 

9.00 a.m. - 5.30 p.m

Theory
basic CMR, gradient-echo cine imaging, plane selections,
LV/RV function determination.
Application
volunteers, patients with wall motion abnormalities, LV analysis.
Dinner at 6.30 p.m.

Friday

 

9.00 a.m. - 5.30 p.m.

Theory
basics morphology, late gadolinium enhancement in infarction and myocarditis, contrast-enhanced MR angiography, image optimisation, safety. 
Application
patients with myocardial infarction, patients with aortic disease.

Saturday

 

9.00 a.m. - 1.30 p.m.

Theory
flow quantification, valvular heart disease, CMR indications.
Application
patients with valvular disease.

Extended course             

 

Monday

 

9.00 a.m.- 5.00 pm   

Theory  
self-assessment MR physics, myocardial tagging.
Application  
attendance during regular clinical MR program of VUmc 

Tuesday

 

9.00 a.m.- 5.00 p.m.

Theory 
self-assessment CMR case review, myocardial perfusion

Target audience

The course is primarily intended for cardiologists, radiologists and residents with limited or no practical experience in CMR. A basic understanding of cardiac physiology and familiarity with the more common cardiac diseases, such as ischemic heart disease and valvular heart disease, strongly recommended.

Educational objectives

Upon completion of this course, participants should be able to:

 

  • have a basic understanding of the principles of MRI
  • be familiar with the specific challenges related to Cardiovascular MR
  •  know which sequences and protocols to use for the main CMR indications
  • understand and be able to resolve the more common artifacts
