The use of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) in the evaluation of cardiovascular diseases is rapidly moving forward. Due to the development of newer and faster techniques its clinical role is gradually expanding, now incorporating primary indications as quantification of left and right ventricular function and myocardial viability.
The Cardiovascular Magnetic Resonance Imaging (CMR) unit of the VU University Medical Center (VUmc) is the result of a close collaboration between the Departments of Cardiology, Radiology, and Physics & Medical Technology. Starting from 1985 it has built up considerable experience in both clinical and research applications. CMR Hands-on Courses have been organized at the VUmc since 1995. They are held twice a year and are designed to provide practical and clinical insight in CMR to cardiologists, radiologists, and trainees. During the course practical application is combined with theory sessions and background information.
