Research focus

Current research focuses on high throughput image analysis of complete microscopic slides (e.g. tissue microarrays (TMA) ) using state of the art imaging equipment and development and implementation of bioinformatics, biobanking and integrated cancer research tools.

Biosketch

Jeroen Beliën is a computer scientist (medical informatics) with special interest in image processing and image analysis within the field of cancer research. After obtaining his university degree in medical informatics at the Vrije Universiteit in Amsterdam he completed his PhD on "Image analysis of proliferation related phenomena in pathology" at the department of Pathology of the Vrije Universiteit University Medical Center . He currently pursues his research career at the same department as senior scientist. He focuses on bioinformatics and high throughput image processing applications using state of the art imaging equipment.
Besides his research he is responsible for all IT matters within the department of Pathology, as well as he is (joint) project/workpackage leader for several IT projects amongst which the implementation of a new laboratory information management system named Flexlab SymPathy and 2 CTMM projects (see www.ctmm.nl DeCoDe and TRACER)
Parts of his work have been made commercially available: Leica QPath system.
